YouTube Time Manager

Open-source Chrome extension that tracks and categorises your time on YouTube, all stored locally.

YouTube Time Manager tells you where your time on YouTube actually goes — how long you spend per video and per channel, sorted into categories you define. 20+ people use it weekly.

How it works#

Background scripts measure watch time at the video and channel level, allowing for tab switches and pauses so the numbers stay honest. You can cluster channels into categories — Education, Productivity, Entertainment — and the extension aggregates the totals on the fly into a small local dashboard of daily and weekly stats and category breakdowns. It's built on Manifest V3 and is local-first: everything lives in Chrome Storage / IndexedDB, nothing leaves the browser. Open-source on GitHub.
